Dear Twan,
Fisher Price had the opportunity to review the BOEZELS on February 24th. The
concept was passed on since it was not viewed as a toy. Fisher Price
continues to seek from the outside inventing community innovative mechanisms
and technologies that bring a magical life-like quality to their plush
characters.
The newest Elmo, for example, will give a child an amusing and exhilarating
play pattern like never before. Developed and submitted by an outside
inventor.
Their past experienced has proven unsuccessful with an unknown character
line and so the mass-market retailer refuse to give them shelf space for
this style product.
Larger toy manufacturers look for hot properties made famous and
recognizable through animated TV series since they are understood by
children on a world-wide scale before manufacturing can begin.
Fascinating characters that have come up through this venue include the
Sesame St. personalities, BOOBAHS, TELLITUBIES, etc. Some newcomers to the
scene include FOSTER’S HOME FOR IMAGINARY FRIENDS (CNN CARTOON NETWORK) and
the many offerings from BBC WORLDWIDE. (The Licensing Book) 6/04 and 8/05
editions.
The BOEZELS need to partner with a well-respected entity that can put the
message and personalities of BOEZELS into the hearts of children around the
world. Once the emotional connection for your characters is established, a
demand follows and makes the property very attractive to a toy manufacturer.
You may want to consider channeling all the enthusiasm and energy your
BOEZELS have generated toward TV productions for a greater opportunity to
enjoy the success of so many artistic creations that have been introduced to
the world this way.
As discussed in your evaluation, there are other phenomenon’s that worked
their way up the ranks in other ways. MOGU PEOPLE, the collection of mythic
characters that represent human ideals and emotions have partnered with a
company that developed a filling using tiny Powder Beads and added the
latest in swimwear technology as the outer covering for a special "magical
feeling" creating a totally unique, joy-inducing experience when hugging the
characters. (Licensing Book 6/04)
While the road is sometimes long, the rewards can surely be worth the wait.
An example would be NAUGHTY, NAUGHTY PETS by a New York artist that started
out in museums and high-end gift shops and is now ready to grow out from the
independent retail distribution into mass-market with a host of
manufacturers offering to market plush, toys, keychains, sleepwear, greeting
cards, calendars, even bed sheets featuring these characters. (Licensing
Book 6/04)
